Labor has officially won the British elections

05.07.2024

The Labor Party, led by Sir Keir Starmer, has won a majority of votes in the House of Commons following the early parliamentary elections.

This was reported by the BBC.

This is the end of 14 years of Conservative rule in the UK.

The vote count has not yet been completed in all constituencies, but Labor has already officially won 381 of them, giving it a comfortable majority in the 650-seat House.

An exit poll forecast released immediately after the end of voting on Thursday evening predicted that Labor would end up with 410 seats.

Keir Starmer and shadow finance minister Rachel Reeves, who is predicted to have the second most important post in the future government, won their constituencies with confidence.

Change starts right here, because this is your democracy, your community, your future. You have voted. Now it’s time for us to keep our promises, – Starmer said in a short speech after the results were announced.

Also, in his Richmond and Northallerton constituency, incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was re-elected. At the same time, he acknowledged that the Conservatives had lost and said he congratulated Starmer on his victory.

The transfer of power will take place in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides. This should give us all confidence in the stability and future of our country. The British people have delivered a sobering verdict today, there is much to learn… and I accept responsibility for the defeat, – Sunak said.

Later on Friday, Sunak and then Starmer will travel to Buckingham Palace for an audience with King Charles III.
