Israel Reports Critical Shortage of Interceptor Missiles to United States

15.03.2026

Israel informed the United States this week about a critical shortage of ballistic missile interceptors. The country faces this deficit as the intense military confrontation with Iran continues to drain its defense stockpiles. Currently, the Israeli military is developing urgent solutions to address these gaps in its air defense network.

This was reported by Semafor, citing senior American officials familiar with the matter. According to the report, Israel entered the current conflict with already diminished supplies. These stocks were largely depleted during the significant escalation with Iran in 2025. Consequently, the ongoing Iranian attacks have placed immense pressure on Israel’s long-range missile defense systems.

Details of the Crisis

US officials confirmed they anticipated this capacity issue several months ago. Furthermore, the situation has worsened because Iran began adding cluster munitions to its ballistic missiles. This tactic forces the Israeli defense system to fire more interceptors at a single target, accelerating the exhaustion of resources. Although the US maintains sufficient domestic stockpiles, Washington has not yet confirmed whether it will sell or transfer more interceptors to Israel.

Currently, Israel relies on alternative defense methods, such as utilizing fighter jets to intercept incoming threats. Meanwhile, the Iron Dome system remains focused on countering short-range fire rather than ballistic missiles. Pentagon representatives stated that US forces in the region have all the necessary equipment, while Israel must find independent ways to resolve its resource shortage.

Regional Response

The munitions crisis is pushing Israel to seek expertise from other nations facing similar threats. Recently, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached out to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for consultations. Israel aims to learn from Ukraine’s extensive experience in intercepting Iranian-made drones and missiles during the full-scale Russian invasion. However, President Donald Trump dismissed the need for such cooperation, claiming US military resources remain virtually unlimited.

Previously, The Ukrainian Review reported that the US and Israel clashed over potential strikes on Iranian fuel depots.
