At the Peace Summit, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin released data on the number of civilians killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
This was reported by the Office of the President.
How many people have died in the Russian-Ukrainian war?
According to confirmed data alone, since the invasion in 2022, the Russian military has killed more than 12,000 Ukrainian civilians, including 551 children.
Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said that law enforcement has already documented nearly 130,000 cases of war crimes committed by the Russian military, including 301 cases of sexual violence.
Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, emphasized that all people in Russian captivity are subjected to systematic torture. There is evidence of at least 14,000 such cases.
The figures provided by the Prosecutor General are only confirmatory data. It is currently impossible to accurately calculate the number of deaths due to the lack of access to the occupied territories.
According to the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch, at least 8,000 people died in Mariupol alone from the fighting or war-related causes. HRW notes that the total death toll could be much higher.
