Annalena Baerbock, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, arrived on a visit to Ukraine, reports Suspilne.
The head of the German Foreign Ministry said that as part of the global initiative to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense, almost a billion euros have now been collected for additional support of Ukrainian air defense forces. This was reported by the German Foreign Ministry on the morning of May 21.
“Russian missile terror, constant air strikes, constant power outages, almost no water: the situation in Ukraine has sharply worsened again due to massive Russian airstrikes on civilian infrastructure and a brutal Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region”, — Baerbock said.
She noted that “people’s everyday lives are difficult, but they don’t let them get disappointed”.
“Workers repair bombed power plants, children study mathematics and biology in bunkers six meters underground, a young chef opens a restaurant in Kharkiv, people help each other survive. All of them symbolize the impressive resilience and courage of Ukrainians”, — added the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to the head of the German Foreign Ministry, in order to protect Ukraine from the Russian hail of drones and missiles, it urgently needs strengthened air defense.
“That’s why, together with Defense Minister Pistorius, I launched a global initiative to strengthen air defense. Now, almost a billion euros have been collected for additional support of the Ukrainian air defense forces, and we are working intensively to ensure that there are even more of them”, — said Annalena Baerbock.
She believes that now everyone needs to join forces so that Ukraine survives, so that Ukrainians can continue to live an independent life in the future.
“And so that Putin’s troops do not soon end up near our borders”, — added the head of the Foreign Ministry.
Annalena Baerbock stated that Ukraine’s accession to the EU is a necessary geopolitical consequence of Russia’s war of aggression, which violates international law.
“Putin suggests that eventually we will run out of air, but we will endure. Germany, along with many other countries from all parts of the world, stand firmly on the side of Ukraine. The people of Ukraine can count on this in the long term”, — Baerbock said.
She believes that support for Ukraine is based on a deep belief that Ukraine will win this war.
The head of the German Foreign Ministry emphasized that the conference on the restoration of Ukraine, which will be held in Berlin in June, will be a clear signal that Germany and other countries of the world are ready to help Ukraine in its restoration.
