The European Parliament has approved a financial loan package for Ukraine worth up to €35 billion – 518 MEPs voted in favor, 56 against, and 61 abstained, Babel reports.
This was reported by the press service of the European Parliament.
This money is the bloc’s contribution to the G7 initiative to provide Ukraine with a $50 billion (€45 billion) loan, which will be repaid from the proceeds of Russia’s frozen assets.
The last step for the disbursement of funds to Ukraine will be the approval of the loan by the EU Council under a written procedure. The decision will come into force the day after its publication in the EU’s Official Journal.
It is worth noting that Ukraine has already received several tranches of aid at the expense of the EU’s proceeds from frozen Russian assets. And on September 20, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Union would provide Ukraine with a €35 billion loan from frozen Russian assets.
