British Prime Minister confirms that Ukraine can use Storm Shadow missiles to strike at Russian territory

10.07.2024

The new British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, said that Ukraine could use British Storm Shadows missiles to strike military targets in Russia.

He said this when asked by a Bloomberg journalist during a trip to the NATO summit in Washington, Espresso reports.

According to Starmer, Ukraine can use British Storm Shadow missiles to hit military targets in Russia. He also confirmed that he would continue the policy of the previous British government on the use of long-range weapons in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The British prime minister added that these missiles should “obviously be used in accordance with international humanitarian law, as would be expected”.

But it is up to Ukraine to decide how to use them for these defensive purposes, – Starmer said.

Starmer also commented on Russia’s attack on the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in Kyiv. He said it was “an absolutely shocking, horrific attack”, that provided “a very important, albeit tragic, backdrop to this summit”.

My message to President Putin is this: this NATO summit should be seen as a clear and united determination of the allies to NATO and other countries to support Ukraine and to resist Russian aggression, – the Prime Minister emphasized.

Storm Shadow is a long-range cruise missile developed jointly by the United Kingdom and France. It is usually launched from the air. With a range of more than 250 km, or 155 miles, it is only slightly inferior to the 185-mile US Army’s Air-to-Air Cruise Missile System (ATACMS).
