On September 12, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken paid a working visit to Warsaw, where he met with Polish President Andrzej Duda. They discussed the situation in Ukraine, as well as security issues in the region and cooperation in the field of civilian nuclear energy, including a joint project to build a power plant in Pomerania. The President’s Office wrote about this on the X network, Radiosvoboda reports.
Blinken also met with Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who noted that ensuring Ukraine’s security remains a common priority for Poland and the United States.
Poland remains committed to continuing to put pressure on the Russian regime to force it to end its war against Ukraine, – Sikorski said.
The Polish Foreign Minister also named the conditions under which Ukraine will be able to counter the aggressor even more effectively.
We, as the West, must continue to supply Ukraine with advanced air and missile defense systems, as well as lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons. We are convinced of the effectiveness of economic sanctions and call for more decisive action to confiscate frozen Russian assets, – said Radosław Sikorski.
The Foreign Minister reiterated that he believes that Ukraine has the right to use Western weapons to defend itself.
The victim of aggression has the right to defend itself, the right to shoot down the air assets that attack it. That is why I believe that Ukraine has the right to use Western weapons to prevent war crimes, – said Radosław Sikorski.
The US Secretary of State emphasized the important role of Poland in strengthening Ukraine’s defense. According to him, more than 80% of aid for Ukraine goes through Poland.
It is about ensuring that Ukraine has everything it needs to withstand Russian aggression. The situation on the battlefield has changed, and we are adapting to these changes. We have sent various types of weapons, more than $100 billion in aid, we are exchanging intelligence, and we are changing the way we work at every step, where necessary, – Blinken emphasized.
The Secretary of State assured that the United States will continue to take all possible measures to protect Ukraine.
Can Ukraine win? Yes, and that is what we are striving for with great determination. If we look at what has been happening over the past two years of Russian aggression, we are counting on Ukraine’s success… Without its own navy, Ukraine is repelling attacks by the Russian fleet. And what is happening now in Kursk. The citizens of Ukraine, with the support of Poland and other countries, have repeatedly demonstrated their determination and will be able to succeed, – the US Secretary of State emphasized.
Blinken also met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Details of the meeting are not yet available.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrives in Warsaw from Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian leaders and attended the Crimean Platform summit. Ukraine asks the United States and other Western partners to give their consent to use their weapons deep into Russian territory; as of September 12, no such official permission has been received.
