US President Joe Biden is planning to visit Germany next week after canceling his visit due to Hurricane Milton, Babel reports.
Citing sources, Spiegel notes that planning for the US president’s visit to Berlin is already underway behind the scenes with the federal government and security agencies. According to the current calendar, official meetings with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz are scheduled for Friday, October 18.
According to the newspaper, Biden’s visit to Germany is a kind of farewell visit by the president before the upcoming US elections in early November.
Initially, Biden’s visit was planned to include an official banquet and other honorable events, but now the program has been significantly reduced. Nevertheless, Joe Biden will still be awarded a special degree of the Grand Cross of the Federal Order of Merit for services to German-American friendship.
