Rwanda has withdrawn its signature from the joint communiqué of the Global Peace Summit, which took place in Switzerland on June 15-16.
This is evidenced by the list of signatories published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, Radiosvoboda reports.
Rwanda became the third such country, after Jordan and Iraq removed their signatures earlier.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate, which was not on the list as of June 16, has also been added to the list.
Turkey is among the countries that signed the document. Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke in favor of Russia’s presence at the peace conference.
At the same time, Saudi Arabia is not among the signatories, and its top diplomat has called on the parties to make “difficult compromises.”
Also, among the countries that delegated their representatives to the Peace Summit, Thailand, India, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates did not sign the communiqué. Swiss President Viola Amherd called the outcome of the international conference in Burgenstock a “good result.”
“Out of 90 states present, 84 signed or co-authored a joint communiqué. This is a large number, and it includes countries that are not only Western or pro-Western. It also includes countries on the African continent and Latin American countries. So I am convinced that this is a good result”, – Viola Amherd said.
Global Peace Summit
On June 15-16, a two-day Global Peace Summit was held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, at the initiative of Ukraine. The summit was attended by representatives of Ukraine, 91 states and 9 international organizations.
Following the summit, a declaration with three main points was signed in Switzerland:
- Nuclear safety. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant should operate under Ukraine’s control, and threats with nuclear weapons are unacceptable.
- Global food security. Access to seaports on the Black and Azov Seas must be ensured.
- All prisoners of war and illegally detained civilians must be released, and deported children must be returned.
