UN: 184 Ukrainian civilians killed by Russian aggression in August

09.09.2024

In August 2024, 184 Ukrainian civilians, including eight children, were killed in hostilities, and 856 civilians were injured.

This is stated in the report of the United Nations (UN), Suspilne informs.

As the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights notes in its report, the vast majority of victims fell on the territories controlled by the legitimate authorities of Ukraine – that is, the territories that the Russian army is attacking.

At least 184 civilians were killed and 856 injured in Ukraine in August, making it the second-worst month for civilian casualties in 2024 after July, – the report said.

Of the 184 people killed, 10 lived in the Russian-occupied territories, and 84 of the 856 wounded.

Almost all war victims died in August from missile, bomb, and artillery strikes, and two people were killed by mines.

In total, according to UN estimates, since February 24, 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine, 11,743 people have been killed and 24,614 civilians have been wounded in the fighting.

The reduction in the frequency of reports was likely influenced by a decrease in civilian casualties. The vast majority – 8,427 deaths – occurred in the first year of the invasion.
