Umerov discusses critical defense needs of Ukraine with Austin

Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov spoke with his American counterpart Lloyd Austin about the situation on the battlefield and the needs of the Ukrainian army, Espreso reports.

This was informed by US Department of Defense spokesman General Pat Ryder at a briefing and by Rustem Umerov in X.

According to the American official, the purpose of the conversation was to discuss the dynamics of hostilities in Ukraine and priorities for security assistance. Minister Umerov also provided an update on Ukraine’s operations and needs.

I had a productive weekly conversation with Lloyd Austin. I briefed the Secretary on the latest developments on the battlefield. We discussed Ukraine’s critical defense needs and explored ways to further strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, – Rustem Umerov wrote.

The two leaders also discussed the 24th meeting of the U.S. – Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which took place on September 6 at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. 

In addition, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to work with allies and partners to provide Ukraine with the tools it needs to win the fight against Russian aggression. Both leaders promised to maintain close contact.
